When I find a really nice Instagram page, I cannot help but think that this person has their whole life together.
Since I have began blogging more frequently, I have REALLY got into creating a better, more "professional" brand for myself. Before, I had no problem posting an out of focus, over exposed picture of my dog sleeping on his bed for the 96th time. Are there ever too many sleeping dog pictures? But I never cared to actually take the time and really plan out my Instagram posts.
Instagram is one of the top social media platforms. In today's world, Instagram is a huge tool to help promote your brand, showcase your work, build a portfolio, or simply capture a moment. So many of us are visual individuals, so finding a great Instagram feed really sticks out in our brains.
Here is how my Instagram page looks. It is no where near perfect, but so far, I love the look of it. It truly represents my style. Be sure to follow my Instagram!! :)
Here are a few Instagram pages that I love. Something I think is so great about these pages is I can see the picture appear on my feed and I instantly know who posted it without looking at the name. These people have created such a brand that I can easily recognize their photos in a pool of photos.

SO! What are a few tips and tricks to improve your Instagram page?
Find a few pages you really enjoy, and see WHY you enjoy this page. Is it because it is all puppy pictures? Bright, clean looking photos? Black & white photos? Food pictures? Nature? Find what YOU like about the page and start there. I am not saying to completely copy their page, but get inspiration from their page and add in your own style.
2. Taking a good picture
What I mean by this, if the "theme" you are going for is bright, white, clean looking photos- do not photograph in the dark. Use natural light to maintain that bright look. Photograph in places that have a lot of natural light. Make sure your picture is not too over exposed, out of focus, too dark. Editing is a lot more seamless when you start off with a good picture.
I will be honest. It takes me a shameful amount of time to edit a picture before posting to Instagram. But you can definitely see the difference when you put in the extra work. The two editing apps I use are
- VSCO Cam
- Adobe Lightroom (I do not use this app every single time, but every now and then I will edit a picture on Lr) Lightroom is WONDERFUL if you want to tamper with colors, lighting, shadows and more.
Since my photos are normally a brighter, whiter look, I use the Facetune App to whiten my pictures. There is a little toothbrush tool called "whiten" and I just paint the picture white. It does take a while, but totally worth it.
Look at the before and after!!
It immeditaley brightens up the photo and gives it a more clean, crisp look.
After I have whitened my photo, I save to my camera roll and open VSCO Cam. The filter I use is "HB2" I normally tone it down to anywhere between 0.5 and 2.0
I will increase the exposure about +0.5 (all of these numbers can change depending on the photo and your personal preference)
Straighten (this makes a huge difference in your photos)
Editing Instagram photos can take a lot of time, but in the end, it makes all the difference on your page. The process takes me well over 10 minutes from the time I take a picture to edit and post it. Some people may not have the time to do this whole process and I totally get that, but to me, it is so much fun. I hope you find these tips and tricks helpful!
